Rainbow over Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge

Millions of people cross the bridges over the Cape Cod Canal each year. But how many know what this engineering marvel is all about? Samantha Gray, a US Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger will present a program that offers excellent insight into the rich history, fascinating features, and vigilant operation of the Cape Cod Canal. A portion of the presentation will include a film entitled ‘Canal Story.’

BARS March 2018 Meeting

We will have two terrific presenters for our March meeting: Kris Clark’s presentation is titled Shellfishing in Barnstable. The second presenter is from the R. A. Ribb Company, the shellfishing rake company in Harwich. The meeting will be held at the West Barnstable Community Building on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. New members will receive a gift from BARS and refreshments will be served at a meet and greet reception after the presentations.

BARS October 2017 Meeting

Tom Marcotti and Liz Lewis will bring us up to date on the Town of Barnstable Natural Resources Department’s activities and the upcoming Oyster season. The October 2017 BARS meeting will be held at the Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills Fire Station on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

Our featured speaker for the September, 2017 BARS meeting will be Kalliope Erin Chute. Kalliope is the Hazardous Materials Environmental Specialist at Barnstable County’s Cape Cod Cooperative Extension. Ms. Chute will be talking about the connection between household chemicals/pharmaceuticals, water quality, shellfish, and what actions and behaviors people can adopt to protect their local water.
