The featured speaker for BARS’ March meeting is John Townes. John is the new Vice President of BARS and is dedicated to the continued growth of the club and its activities and its support of the Barnstable Department of Natural Resources. He recently learned about the Triploid Oyster and its importance in rejuvenating the oyster fishery on the east coast from Maine to Louisiana, as well as the Pacific Northwest. He will be presenting some of his findings at this month’s BARS meeting.
John retired and moved with his wife Leigh to Cotuit in 2017 and almost immediately they became members of BARS. They both quickly discovered a passion for shellfishing on The Cape and have been active in many of BARS’ projects and events including helping the Department of Natural Resources planting and harvesting quahogs, and supporting their Clamming for Kids/Everyone classes.
