Bob Silva

Robert Silva former BARS President and Vice President

Bob Silva was BARS President from 2010 to 2012 and BARS Vice President from 2008 to 2010. While Bob was president, he started the BARS scholarship for returning college students and the BARS monthly newsletter to members. Bob was present at every BARS event, often with his granddaughter, Emma, and volunteered for the Barnstable Department of Natural Resources as long as he could. BARS will miss Bob tremendously.

Ed Dutton

Edward P. Dutton

Ed was BARS’ first president. Ed loved the camaraderie and the jovial structure of this new non-profit that has continued until today, 22 years later. Finding a shared value of Barnstable’s shellfish, many of BARS members have become personal friends and Ed was a friend to many of BARS members, past and present. There will never be another Ed Dutton, and we wish him peace since he passed away in August, 2023 at age 97.

Rick Barry Passed Away

Rick Barry

Rick Barry passed away suddenly at age 58. Rick was a town councilor and the recipient of the first Barnstable Bivalve Buddy Award. Rick was instrumental in leading the charge at the Barnstable Town Council meetings to advocate for the zoning overlay of the No-Pier Zone in Cotuit. He was a good friend of BARS and will be sorely missed.

Thank you everyone who volunteered at the recycling shack and all those who donated their returnable bottles and cans. Shown here are some photos of those who showed up the last day to help clean the shack; empty the container of bags of cans and boxes of bottles into the truck to be returned to the manufacturers; and finally, to celebrate the end of a job well done.
