March 2017 BARS Meeting

The next BARS meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 7th.

Our next meeting will take place at the West Barnstable Community Building on Route 149 Tuesday, March 7 at 7:00 pm. Our speaker for the evening will be Kimberly M. Concra, LDN. Kim is a nutrition and food safety specialist with Cape Cod Cooperative Extension. Her topic will be: Nutrition Considerations: Shellfish on My Plate. Ms. Contra’s degree is in human nutrition and is a licensed nutritionist (LDN) with the State. She is co-chair of the Cape Cod Hunger Network and works with food pantries to teach people how to prepare healthy meals from available foods. As part of her work she teaches nutrition workshops to Senior Centers, preschool parents, and teachers, and conducts cooking demonstrations. Through various grant funding Kim put together a cookbook for food pantries titled Cook Well, Eat Well, Live Well.

She also helps with biometric screenings and wellness activities with the County,  and teaches ServSafe food safety manager classes to food service professionals. Kim belongs to the MA Partnership of Food Safety Education which brings representatives from USDA, FDA, Dept of Public Health and Food Protection Program together to promote food safety education. A member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, she is also a member of the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Nutrition. She serves on the Board of Directors of Barnstable County Beekeepers, Lower Cape Outreach Council, and Cape Cod Children’s Place.
